School-based Apprentices QLD
School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs) allow high school students, generally in Years 10, 11 or 12, to work for an employer and train towards a recognised qualification. You can still undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship whilst completing secondary schooling and studying for your Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and/or Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
School-based apprentices and trainees are paid while they learn workplace skills, gain confidence, and adapt to a work environment. It gives the student the opportunity to put skills learnt at school and with the training organisation, into practice in a real work environment.
A School-based traineeship or apprenticeship can take between 12 – 60 months to complete. It just depends on the qualification you have chosen.
You will need to be signed into a training contract with an Australian Apprenticeships Support Network before you start training with your training. The maximum amount of training which may be delivered for a school-based apprentice will be limited to the following delivery levels until such time as the school-based apprentice transfers to full apprenticeship status (full-time or part-time) under the same registration number and qualification:
- Four-year nominal term — 33.3 per cent delivery limit
- Three-year nominal term — 40 per cent delivery limit
- Two-year nominal term — 50 per cent delivery limit
