Launch into Work Program supported by William Angliss Institute

Proudly supported by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and the Launch into Work Program, the William Angliss Institute Skills and Jobs Centre collaborated with Meals with Impact to execute the 4-week 'People First Project'.

Eight individuals participated in a range of training sessions and hands-on, work-based tasks aimed at filling employment gaps for Marriott International W Melbourne.

During the program, attendees engaged in simulated exercises including accreditation in Responsible Service of Alcohol, Digital Literacy, Barista skills and Safe Food Handling and Guest Relations training. Additionally, they received mentoring, and further developed skills related to work and wellbeing.

Hosting some of these activities onsite with our skilled teaching staff at William Angliss Institute, our Skills and Jobs Centre team delivered a 3-hour workshop titled 'Identifying Career Goals & using your Transferable Skills'. This workshop aimed to assist participants identify which part of the hotel they would like to work in by enhancing their self-awareness regarding their interests, values, skills and strengths. They then explored how to leverage their existing experiences to transition into their preferred positions within W Hotels.

According to William Angliss Institute Skills and Jobs Centre Career Counsellor Emma, "By establishing a foundation of who we are and what we are wanting from this next career step, we can then make well-informed career choices, rather than taking a leap and hoping for the best."

"This session allowed participants to explore what roles they might enjoy doing at W Melbourne and consider future possible career paths that may interest them," added Emma.

Participants were also provided with one-on-one career counselling support, giving them an opportunity to seek additional guidance.

This initiative gave participants tangible experience across multiple job areas at W Melbourne, increasing their confidence to step into roles with the luxury hotel.

Meals with Impact Project Coordinator Nikki Blanch, highlighted, "This project represents a different way of doing pre-employment training. By collaborating closely with jobseekers and the end employer, the program was tailored to both individual needs and the available roles."

"With a focus on soft skill development alongside industry specific skills, the program aimed to engage people in meaningful training that had a clear end-result. Thanks to William Angliss Institute, we were able to access incredible training facilities and trainers who are industry experts, so participants felt more prepared to step into their new workplace," she added.

The William Angliss Institute Skills and Jobs Centre looks forward to supporting the delivery of the next stage of the Launch into Work program.
