Angliss Hosts THE-ICE 16th International Panel of Experts Forum 2023
William Angliss Institute was proud to host the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) 16th International Panel of Experts (IPoE) 2023 Forum at our Melbourne campus.
It was the second time that the Institute had won the bid to host the THE-ICE IPoE, the pre-eminent body for accreditation, benchmarking and quality enhancement in tourism, hospitality, events, and culinary arts.
Contemporary challenges addressed
Over seventy representatives from TH&E research, education and industry came together to address the theme of Leading Change in Challenging Times – Finding and Framing the Transformative TH&E graduates for the 21st Century, with guests from ten other countries including Switzerland, Fiji, Philippines, and Dubai.
According to William Angliss Institute Director, Education Chris Harris, "The theme encapsulated the Institute's 'Strategic Framework for Education Excellence (EdEx)' - with the focus of the capable graduate at its core and with its ideas validated by industry demonstrating that the Institute's vision is aligned with the most contemporary level of hospitality."
Running over two days, the panels captured the contemporary challenges and issues of the day:
• Industry Leaders in Conversation with Leaders of the Future
• The New Workplace: Workplace wellbeing and the working from home phenomenon
• Evolving Technology, Robots, and Generative AI VS the Human Touch
• Actioning Sustainable Futures
• Learning Anytime, Everywhere: Evolving Institutional Models and Industry Needs
Experiential learning at its best
"A key highlight of the event was the experiential learning gained by more than two hundred students while showcasing the Institute's unique learning facilities," added Chris.
Aviation Cabin Crew students, greeted delegates on the first official day of the Forum, escorting them to the Angliss Courtyard where First Nations Elder Uncle Shane Charles proceeded with a Welcome to Country.
Students from eleven different courses representing foods, tourism, hospitality and events, and from both VET and Higher Education, practiced their skills and craft. This included front-of-house at the Wine and Food Pairing; front and back-of-house plus tour guiding at the Progressive Dinner; plus, event design, theming, and registration at the Gala Dinner.
The International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) was established in 2004 by the Australian Federal Government to promote excellence in tourism, hospitality, and events (TH&E).
Since becoming a not-for-profit organisation in 2008, THE-ICE has developed into a global organisation with a network of 44 members in 19 countries across 4 continents. As a foundation member, William Angliss Institute benefits from this vast network of similar organisations with benchmarking in the form of the Student Barometer surveys and Higher Education course reviews.
The THE-ICE IPoE 16th Forum 2023 was made possible at William Angliss Institute by support from Future Events Lab (Gold Sponsor), Simon George & Sons (Gala Dinner), Hosco, Russel Partnership Technology, Smith Tourism Research (STR) Share Centre and the Higher Education Leadership Institute.
